Kubota Pharmaceutical Holdings Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) on May
18th, its subsidiary Kubota Vision (Washington, USA) verified the effect
of active stimulation that stimulates the eyes with a special light, To
the retina) has been confirmed. Utilizing this technology, we will develop eyeglass-type devices that can be used for the prevention and treatment of myopia.
Most myopia is caused by an increase in the axial length of the eye, and the focus in the eyeball is closer to the retina. The axial length grows or stops growing with age, but this is the technology that "moved it backwards for the first time."
KUBOTA VISION made 12 men and women aged 21 to 32 (myopia patients) of different races use the prototype of active stimulation and said, "The artificial light shortens the axial length compared to the target eye. It is unprecedented in the world." Detailed data will be published as a paper.
However, since a single treatment takes several hours, a table-top device such as a prototype device imposes a heavy burden on the patient. For this reason, the idea is to incorporate the technology of active stimulation into glasses and contact lenses to create an environment that can be easily corrected in daily life. First of all, we will develop smart glasses called "Kubota glasses" and aim to finish the trial and complete the prototype within the year. We are also considering the development of smart contact lenses.
Dr. Ryo Kubota (Representative Executive Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer) of Kubota Pharmaceutical Holdings Co., Ltd. exclaims, "We were able to obtain better-than-expected data in the verification of myopia patients." "By eliminating myopia, we hope to improve the quality of life as well as reduce the complications leading to blindness caused by myopia."
