輪の中心にあるのは……驚くなかれ、十字架がそそり立つ「キリストの墓」だ。
ここは秋田県との県境にある青森県新郷（しんごう）村の戸来（へらい）地区。6月の第1日曜日、盛大に開かれる「キリスト祭」は今年で55回目を迎えた。人口2500人ほどの村に約1千人がつめかける。外国人の姿もあり、不思議そうに踊りを眺めていた。
「踊ると背筋がシャキッとしますね。キリストのお墓の前ですから」
「ナニャドヤラ」保存会長の佐藤久美子さん（70）は舞い終えた後、楽しそうに話した。
佐藤さんによれば、ナニャドヤラとは元々、青森県南部から岩手県北部など旧南部藩に伝わる盆踊り。しかしその意味も語源も、諸説あるがよくわかっていないという。
それにしてもイエス・キリストがなぜ青森に眠るのか。ゴルゴタの丘で磔（はりつけ）にされたはずではなかったのか。渦巻く疑問に対し、新郷村の元職員で「日本国青森県新郷村キリスト日本渡来説案内人」を名乗る永野範英（のりひで）さん（62）は次のように話す。
「1931年に『竹内文書（もんじょ）』が発見されるんですけど、その中にキリストの遺言状らしきものがありまして……」
『竹内文書』とは、超古代の歴史を記したとされる古文書だ。茨城県磯原町（今の北茨城市）にある皇祖皇太神宮（こうそこうたいじんぐう）の管長を務め、天津教（あまつきょう）教祖だった竹内巨麿（きよまろ）（1875～1965）の自宅に伝わっていた。そこに「キリストが戸来に住んでいた」と記されていた。竹内氏は4年の歳月をかけ「戸来」の場所を突き止め、小高い丘の竹やぶの中に土饅頭（どまんじゅう）を発見するとこれをキリストの墓と「認定」した。そこに村が十字架を立てたのだ。
『竹内文書』によれば、ゴルゴタの丘で処刑されたのは身代わりの弟だったという。キリストは生き延び、船で青森県の八戸にたどり着き、戸来へ。そこで日本人女性と結婚し3女をもうけ、106歳で死んだ──。

東北──。かつて時の中央政府から「蝦夷（えみし）」と呼ばれた人々が住んだこの地には、摩訶不思議な話が多い。
秋田県鹿角（かづの）市にはピラミッドとストーンサークル。岩手県遠野市には河童伝説。青森県外ケ浜町には、はるか南の平泉で没したはずの義経伝説が残る。福島市飯野町の千貫森（せんがんもり）は数多くのUFOが目撃される「聖地」だ。
鹿角市にあり「日本のピラミッド」と呼ばれているのは黒又山（くろまたやま）。標高281メートルで、形のよい三角形の山姿は、離れて見るとピラミッドに見えなくもない。
実は、黒又山＝ピラミッドという壮大な仮説は昭和初期からある。山の南西2キロに、約4千年前の縄文時代の遺跡・ストーンサークルがあり、ピラミッドは縄文人が造ったのではないかなどといわれた。1992年、東北学院大学教授をリーダーとした学術調査隊が現地に入りナゾに迫った。地中レーダー探査の結果、山がピラミッドかどうかはっきりしないが、祭祀を行う場所だったことは間違いないと結論づけた。
教科書に載っている歴史とは違う異説は、「偽史」とも呼ばれる。それらをとりまく人々や社会を調べている評論家で『偽史冒険世界 カルト本の百年』などの著書がある長山靖生さんは、東北に摩訶不思議な話が多いのは、地理的条件が大きく関係していると見る。
「4世紀に大和朝廷が成立すると、古事記や日本書紀などによって神話が文章化され、政権が公認する『正史』が成立します。またその過程で、畿内から西には一つの統一文化圏が成立していきました。そういうところに、キリストの墓やピラミッドがあるという話を押し込むことはできない。それに対し、東北は中央に取り込まれなかった分、伝説などが入り込む余地があったのではないでしょうか」
キリストの墓、ピラミッド、UFO──。念のため、あなたが今読んでいるのは「ムー」ではなく「アエラ」だ。オカルトめいたこれらの異説について、「反オカルト」の立場で知られる早稲田大学名誉教授の大槻義彦さんはどう考えるのか。
「東北の人たちは自然の中で生活してきた。だから、いろんな不思議な想像をするのです」
大槻さん自身、宮城県出身の東北人だ。例えば、昔の東北の農家では養蚕が盛んで、夜中にもざわざわと物音がし、人がいる気配を感じさせた。人々はそこから様々な想像を広げ、不思議な物語をつくったとみる。
大槻さんはもう1点、気候などの自然環境が過酷だったことで、かつて厳しい生活を強いられていたという東北の歴史的背景も、風変わりな伝説が多いことに影響していると話す。
「気候が厳しい東北はその昔、他の地域より生活が苦しく、十分な教育を受けて科学的知識を育むことができない人たちがいました。しかし自然との触れ合いは豊かで、想像力は膨らんだ。それが不思議な話を生み出す土壌になったのです」
東北の人たちは、荒唐無稽な話も非科学的な妄想だと拒絶することなく受け入れてきたのだ。
福島市飯野町。町の北側にそびえる千貫森（標高462メートル）。この山では大正時代から「ひかりもの」という発光物体がたびたび目撃されている。
「地底に強力な磁場があって、山自体がUFOを呼び寄せるパラボラアンテナの役割を果たしているからだと思います」
そう持論を展開するのは、山の中腹に立つ「UFOふれあい館」の元館長でUFO研究家の木下次男（つぎお）さん（71）。すでに6回もUFOを「目撃」したことがあるという。
木下さんが最初にUFOを見たのは72年、25歳のとき。福島県中部の安達太良（あだたら）連山を仲間と登る途中、山頂付近にヘルメット形の物体が現れた。1円玉のような少し鈍い銀色。空中で約30秒静止し、目をそらした瞬間に消えていたという。
超常現象か、ただの見間違えか。UFOの存在を証明することは難しい。だが、大切なのは興味をつきつめる探究心だ。いまもUFOに思いを巡らしているという木下さんは熱く語った。
「自由に考える人間の心の広さは、宇宙の広さに匹敵します」

鹿角市にあり「日本のピラミッド」と呼ばれているのは黒又山（くろまたやま）。標高281メートルで、形のよい三角形の山姿は、離れて見るとピラミッドに見えなくもない。
実は、黒又山＝ピラミッドという壮大な仮説は昭和初期からある。山の南西2キロに、約4千年前の縄文時代の遺跡・ストーンサークルがあり、ピラミッドは縄文人が造ったのではないかなどといわれた。1992年、東北学院大学教授をリーダーとした学術調査隊が現地に入りナゾに迫った。地中レーダー探査の結果、山がピラミッドかどうかはっきりしないが、祭祀を行う場所だったことは間違いないと結論づけた。
教科書に載っている歴史とは違う異説は、「偽史」とも呼ばれる。それらをとりまく人々や社会を調べている評論家で『偽史冒険世界 カルト本の百年』などの著書がある長山靖生さんは、東北に摩訶不思議な話が多いのは、地理的条件が大きく関係していると見る。
「4世紀に大和朝廷が成立すると、古事記や日本書紀などによって神話が文章化され、政権が公認する『正史』が成立します。またその過程で、畿内から西には一つの統一文化圏が成立していきました。そういうところに、キリストの墓やピラミッドがあるという話を押し込むことはできない。それに対し、東北は中央に取り込まれなかった分、伝説などが入り込む余地があったのではないでしょうか」
キリストの墓、ピラミッド、UFO──。念のため、あなたが今読んでいるのは「ムー」ではなく「アエラ」だ。オカルトめいたこれらの異説について、「反オカルト」の立場で知られる早稲田大学名誉教授の大槻義彦さんはどう考えるのか。
「東北の人たちは自然の中で生活してきた。だから、いろんな不思議な想像をするのです」
大槻さん自身、宮城県出身の東北人だ。例えば、昔の東北の農家では養蚕が盛んで、夜中にもざわざわと物音がし、人がいる気配を感じさせた。人々はそこから様々な想像を広げ、不思議な物語をつくったとみる。
大槻さんはもう1点、気候などの自然環境が過酷だったことで、かつて厳しい生活を強いられていたという東北の歴史的背景も、風変わりな伝説が多いことに影響していると話す。
「気候が厳しい東北はその昔、他の地域より生活が苦しく、十分な教育を受けて科学的知識を育むことができない人たちがいました。しかし自然との触れ合いは豊かで、想像力は膨らんだ。それが不思議な話を生み出す土壌になったのです」
東北の人たちは、荒唐無稽な話も非科学的な妄想だと拒絶することなく受け入れてきたのだ。
福島市飯野町。町の北側にそびえる千貫森（標高462メートル）。この山では大正時代から「ひかりもの」という発光物体がたびたび目撃されている。
「地底に強力な磁場があって、山自体がUFOを呼び寄せるパラボラアンテナの役割を果たしているからだと思います」
そう持論を展開するのは、山の中腹に立つ「UFOふれあい館」の元館長でUFO研究家の木下次男（つぎお）さん（71）。すでに6回もUFOを「目撃」したことがあるという。
木下さんが最初にUFOを見たのは72年、25歳のとき。福島県中部の安達太良（あだたら）連山を仲間と登る途中、山頂付近にヘルメット形の物体が現れた。1円玉のような少し鈍い銀色。空中で約30秒静止し、目をそらした瞬間に消えていたという。
超常現象か、ただの見間違えか。UFOの存在を証明することは難しい。だが、大切なのは興味をつきつめる探究心だ。いまもUFOに思いを巡らしているという木下さんは熱く語った。
「自由に考える人間の心の広さは、宇宙の広さに匹敵します」
夢とロマンを愛する東北人。その気持ちが、何かと世知辛い世の中に、どこかうれしい。（編集部・野村昌二）
