A controversial video shows a doctor assaulting a lying patient at a hospital in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China, on March 14, 2016.
In China, the issue of charging extra fees to patients undergoing surgeries is a frequent problem that has been attracting attention. A woman who works as a nurse at a hospital in Hohhot testified that it is not uncommon for hospitals in the city, including her own, to charge patients extra during surgery.
In the controversial video, a doctor is seen beating a woman who is lying on what appears to be an obstetrics and gynecology examination table with a medical instrument. The doctor is yelling at the patient and roughing up her legs. It was not reported whether the reason for the doctor's assault had anything to do with the extra charge, but many people have criticized the doctor's actions, arguing that violence is never the best solution for any reason.
