A former member of the House of Representatives is running for the Russian presidential elections, with a platform of opposition to the invasion of Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"If we are united, we can overcome all difficulties."

Vladimir Putin is seeking a fifth term as president of Russia. On April 29, the Central Election Commission confirmed Putin as the official candidate for the presidential election in March.

Meanwhile, Najeev Zyugin, a former member of the lower house of parliament, is attracting attention as to whether he will be allowed to run for the presidency. In an interview with JNN, the only person who is running for office and is opposed to the invasion of Ukraine, stated, "I'm not going to run for president, but I'm going to run for president.

The invasion of Ukraine is the biggest mistake of President Putin. There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations."

He needs 100,000 signatures to run for office, but support for his candidacy has been growing rapidly in recent days. Many people lined up in front of his office to sign the petition even though the temperature was minus 8 degrees Celsius.

With the ongoing control of speech and the threat of arrest if one criticizes the invasion, one wonders what people's thoughts are as they sign the petition.

A person who came to sign the petition

I came to sign the petition because I want to vote for the only candidate who agrees with the banned words in this country (i.e., peace).

If he runs, at least words of truth will reach the zombified Russian people.

If there is even 1% hope, we should believe in it.

Support has spread across Russia, with more than 200,000 signatures collected so far, but the person in question.

Najeev Zygin, a former member of parliament who is running for office.

I never expected to get this many signatures," he said. People were afraid to voice their opposition, but now they know they can legally express their will if they sign the petition."

And even the presidential administration, which had initially appeared relaxed, is said to be changing.

Former MP Najeev Jouzin, who is running for office

The Kremlin [the presidential administration] is getting nervous. My approval rating was 1% a month ago, but now it has increased to 10%. (I have the second highest approval rating [after Vladimir Putin].

On the other hand, he denied that he had been asked by anyone to run for the presidency in order to create the appearance of an "open election.

Najeev Joo-jin's office is carefully counting the signatures so that the Central Election Commission will not point out any flaws in the signatures.

Najeejuddin is scheduled to submit the collected signatures today, but it has been pointed out that the administration, wary of the growing anti-war mood, may not approve his candidacy on the grounds of incomplete documents and other reasons.

Najeezhdin said, "Elections in Russia may not be fair, but it is important that they take place."

Russia's democracy has become a skeleton. Will the people be left with a "choice"?
