Pass Laboratories was founded in 1991 by Nelson Pass in California, USA. Nelson Pass has been the designer of many sensational circuits for 20 years, including the Improved A-Class stasis circuit. He holds a degree in physics from the University of California and holds numerous patents related to amplifier design. He founded Threshold Corporation and served as president from 1974 to 1991. Many of the PASS products were developed because Nelson and other staff wanted such products. All of the current development staff are music freaks, and under Nelson's supervision, they are working hard to ideally realize what should be heard and what should not be heard. Their design philosophy is to have simple and natural characteristics, and to achieve this, they have announced the X series, XA series, and XS series of amplifiers that use MOS-FET.
