Speaking of Toyota "86", it is a car with many fans all over the world as a two-door coupe sports car. On April 5, 2021, the new second-generation GR86 was unveiled to the world for the first time.
However, it is said that there are 86-style custom cars that can seat 5 people with 4 doors in the world.
The first 86, which appeared in 2012, was born as the world's first FR sports car that adopted Subaru's horizontally opposed engine and Toyota's direct injection technology.
By gaining popularity as a base car for various participatory motor sports such as rallies, one-make races, gymkhana, and drifting, it can be said that it succeeded in establishing sports cars as a culture.
On the other hand, although the first generation 86 has a 4-seater configuration, the rear seats are so narrow that it is no exaggeration to say that they are for children.
Since it is a sports car, it is necessary to have a clear idea about it, but there are cases in the world where a 4-door sedan that looks like an 86 but can seat 5 adults was produced.
It was produced by Nippon Automobile College (commonly known as NATS), an automobile vocational school in Chiba Prefecture.
At NATS, a custom car based on Toyota's predecessor "Camry (2012 model)" that looks like the first 86 was exhibited at Tokyo Auto Salon 2020 as "LS86".
The LS is named after the vehicle concept, ``Sports for Livability,'' with the theme of a sports sedan that can comfortably accommodate five people.
For the exterior, the front and rear bumpers of the first generation 86 (early model) are processed and installed, and the head lamps, tail lamps, side markers, and back fog are made by VALENTI.
The suspension is equipped with a TEIN suspension kit and 245/20R19 from Nitto on 19-inch work wheels.
A NATS representative explains the LS86 as follows:
“With the support of Toyota Corolla Chiba Co., Ltd., we produced 86 sedans based on the Camry.
By swapping the face and rear parts of the 86, the sub-concept is "just like the original".
Therefore, it's not a flashy custom, but it's one that realizes "I wish I had it".
It was one of the cars that went smoothly through the completion of the car body and the vehicle inspection, and it was highly evaluated at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2020.”
