◎There are two main types of USB DACs that are capable of MQA playback.
This section outlines the MQA playback method using a DAC with a full decoder, which is superior in terms of sound quality.
Please refer to the following link for information on renderers (DACs), which can be connected mainly to smartphones: https://mqa.jp/article/mqa-renderer-dac/
◎How to playback MQA music with a USB DAC?
High-resolution playback・・・You need a USB DAC that supports MQA playback.
Playback with CD-equivalent specs: Can be played back with a normal USB DAC.
MQA music files currently available on e-onkyo are
FLAC format, with the master source (up to 384 kHz) compactly converted (encoded) to 48 kHz 24-bit
The MQA music files currently available on e-onkyo are in FLAC format, which is a compact conversion (encoding) of the master source (up to 384 kHz) to 48 kHz 24-bit.
◎What software has been tested?
MQA can be played back with software that can normally play back FLAC and WAV files.
software that can play normal FLAC and WAV.
Examples of playback software
Mac environment/Audirvana (paid), Vox (free), etc.
Windows environment/Foobar2000 (free), etc.
(Windows environment/Foobar2000 (free), etc. (Please refer to the manual below for details on playback with Foobar.
Roon (paid) is compatible with both Mac and Win.
◎MQA-compatible USB-DAC
DACs with USB-DAC function (full decoder) are available from various companies. MQA playback is also possible by connecting a handy renderer-type portable DAC, etc. to a PC. MQA playback is also possible. In this case, you will also need to install MQA core decoding software on your PC.
◎What should I pay attention to when setting up the PC?
Set the volume control on the PC/MAC side to the maximum MAX: exactly 100% value.
(2) Set the volume control on the PC/MAC side to the maximum MAX: exactly 100% value.
(2) Disable all DSP processing functions such as effects and mixing functions in the PC playback software.
(2) Disable all DSP processing functions such as effects and mixing functions in the PC playback software.
(iii) MQA core decoding is not necessary for Roon Audirvana, etc., so be sure to turn it off.
Therefore, be sure to turn it off. However, when connecting a renderer type DAC
When connecting a renderer type DAC, activate the core decoding function on the playback software side.
If (1), (2), and (3) are not performed, the USB DAC will not recognize the file as an MQA file.
The key point is to send the downloaded file directly to the DAC via USB cable without any digital processing on the PC side.
◎Is it possible to determine if MQA is being played back correctly?
When an MQA file is being played back, the indicator will light up or "MQA" will appear on the display.
◎When MQA is being played back, the computer will display (recognize) it as FLAC 48k24bit.
The computer side will display (recognize) as FLAC 48k24bit. Does the Hi-Res signal specification not appear on the display?
That is not a malfunction. The physical specifications of the input MQA files currently available on e-onkyo are all based on the original high-resolution signal in
FLAC format 48kHz 24bit.
The PC side outputs the signal as it is, and the DAC side with an MQA decoder decodes it and plays it back as the original high-resolution signal. When MQA playback is performed correctly, the MQA indicator on the playback DAC side is displayed and lights up when MQA playback is performed correctly.

About volume settings for MQA playback
When high-resolution playback is possible but only MQA files are not recognized (sound is still coming out)
Please check that the volume setting of the playback software is set to maximum (-0.0 dB). An example for Foobar2000 is shown below. Check other software (OS) in the same way.
In the same way, disable all other sound quality adjustment functions, mixing outputs, etc. on the playback software side.
Foobar's volume may move unintentionally when the mouse is touched. Slight volume reductions may be difficult to recognize on the computer screen; only MQA recognition should be checked if there is a problem.
If the volume is set to maximum on the interface screen of the playback software such as Foobar <with full bit output>, the PRIME or EXPLORER side will recognize it as an MQA file and the light indicating MQA operation will light up.
If the volume is turned down on the PC, the MQA file will be output as a normal 44/48 kHz PCM file and will not be recognized as an MQA file on the PRIME or EXPLORER2 side.
Although it is possible to adjust the volume from a PC or playback software for normal high-resolution file playback, we recommend using the maximum output for sound quality reasons as well.
