Sound quality has improved with Amazon Music HD settings! 2021.08.25 2024.09.10 It's a pain to have to turn on the exclusive mode switch every time you start Windows, and I think it's a bug. Amazon, please fix this soon. Improve Amazon Music sound quality: Turn off loudness normalisation to improve sound quality! If you want to improve the sound quality of your PC, you may be able to improve the sound quality by using a PC + DDC + USB-DAC + amplifier + speakers configuration. I find the sound quality of the speakers built into TVs to be poor. By the way, if you are using banana plugs, you can make the speaker cable twice as thick by peeling off twice the length and folding it in half, then inserting it into the banana plug and either screwing or twisting it to fix it in place. I tried using Amazon Music HD as background music at home, but the sound quality was worse than Tune Browser, so I wondered if I should stop using it. I had given up, thinking that even if I set it to exclusive mode, it wouldn't be exclusive mode from Windows (I could control it in various ways using Windows controls), but I actually found that I had to turn on a different setting.

I must be the only one who didn't know that...

My listening environment

I refurbished the BOSE 501Z, and bought the FX-Audio D302J + high-resolution compatible full digital amplifier, and connected the PC and amplifier with an optical cable.

The BOSE 501Z speakers are over 30 years old, but they still produce a pretty good sound.

As I listen in near-field in front of my computer, this type of speaker is easy to listen to.

Initial setup method

Windows settings (Windows 10)

Left-click the start button at the bottom left of Windows, Settings → System → Sound → Sound Control Panel

Select the playback device and double-click (I use Realtek Digital Output and output via optical cable)

General

No need to make any settings in particular

Supported formats

Choose the encoding format and sample rate you want to use.

Level

Select 100 for all.

Details

Default Format: Choose the highest bit and sample rate.

Exclusive Mode: Allow applications to control this device exclusively. ON

Give priority to applications in exclusive mode. ON

Signal Enhancement: Enable audio function enhancement. OFF

OFF

Amazon Music Settings

Start Amazon Music and click the person icon in the top right corner.

Click Settings

Settings to change

Sound quality: HD/Hi-Res

Loudness normalization: OFF

Enable exclusive mode: ON

Offline playback settings: Highest possible sound quality (HD/Ultra HD)

However, with just these settings, the exclusive mode was not turned on...

It's safer to download the basic content first and then watch it. I don't feel like the sound is particularly good...

Settings for each start-up

First, select the music you want to play.

Then, a speaker-like icon will appear in the bottom right corner, so click on that to switch to exclusive mode ON.

It's turned off when you first start up, but just turn it on. I was late to notice this...

This setting will be reset if you uninstall the app...

Also, you won't be able to change the volume using the app (or even using Windows volume control...).

I think this will be fixed in the future...

Impressions

After switching to Amazon Music HD, I was worried about the poor sound quality, but this has cleared that up.

Tune Browser Compared to this, it is less functional and the sound quality is lower, but I feel that the sound is less bad, so I would like to use this setting for a while.

It is a bit of a hassle to have to touch the volume on the amp to change the volume...

I am a Prime member of Amazon, and I decided to pay for a year of Family Membership (6 people) to share with my family. It is 14,800 yen per year, so I think it is a good deal.

Amazon Music: Improve sound quality. Turn off loudness normalization to improve sound quality!

2021-12-12 14:09:49

Theme:
Audio/Speakers

I've improved the sound quality of my PC audio system before, and it's gotten a lot better, but I've noticed something.

The sound quality on Youtube is better than on Amazon Music.

I listened to the sound of a video of the Accuphase E-650 pre-main amplifier that I've always admired, and the sound from Youtube is particularly beautiful in the high range. Or rather, it's a crazy beautiful high-quality sound.

I've always been dissatisfied with the sound of Amazon Music, so I thought that it might be a problem with my PC speakers or something?

But then I realized that it wasn't a problem with my PC audio, but a problem with the source!

Please listen to this!

↓ ↓ ↓

I thought, “This is not the kind of sound I get from my Amazon Music!

Why can't I get such a beautiful sound when the quality is ‘ULTRA HD’?

So I looked up ‘Amazon Music sound quality improvement’ on the internet and found out.

Exclusive mode” and “Loudness Normalization OFF

I was already using “Exclusive Mode”, so I checked the settings for “Loudness Normalization” and found that it was ON.

Incidentally, “Loudness Normalization” is a function that makes the volume uniform, even if the volume differs from song to song. In other words, it makes the volume uniform, so you don't have to adjust the volume each time you play a song.

I don't know if it was ON by default I don't know if I turned it on without knowing that it would degrade the sound quality, or not. (^^;

When I turned it off, the sound quality improved.

I think it was quite disturbing. The sound became like it had three filters removed. (^ ^)

Now, I'll explain how to do it.

On your PC, click on the person icon in the top right corner of the screen (on your smartphone, click on the gear icon)

Then, click on Settings

Then, turn off Loudness Normalization

That's all there is to it!

-----------------------------

If it was on by default, I'd think “What a nuisance!”, and if I'd turned it on myself when I first installed the app, I'd say “It's possible that the sound quality will deteriorate.

Or rather, Amazon Music HD is a course for people who want to enjoy high-quality sound, so I think it's unfriendly not to explain such an important part... (>_<)

I'm sorry to disappoint those of you who already had loudness normalization turned off. m(__)m

But for me, it was like I'd finally been able to see a video that was in focus after being shown blurry images.

Or to put it another way, it was like the sound that Amazon had sent me had finally reached me without any interference.

It's just a feeling, but it feels like the sound quality has improved by about 40%.

Actually, I found out about this this morning, and when I tried it, I found it to be quite effective, so I wanted to write an urgent review to let people with the same problem know as soon as possible. m(__)m

I hope your PC audio will be even more fulfilling.

Postscript: 16/12/2021

There was a problem with the Amazon app on my PC, so I reinstalled the PC version.

When I did, the default setting was for loudness normalization to be ON.

So, if you've never touched the settings before, I think you'll enjoy better sound quality if you set it to OFF.
