The above system is also being operated for visualization of management DATA in Konica Minolta's DX strategy.
Personally, I think that the conventional existing DATABASE alone, such as Oracle, is reaching its limits as of 2022.
This is where Snowflake, with its global scale and scalability, comes in.
Einstein Discovery, Tableau, and Snowflake can be linked, and we would be happy if you could use this as a reference.

Background of Introduction
Konica Minolta, Inc. (originally Konica Minolta Holdings, Inc.) was established in August 2003 through the business merger of Konica, founded in 1873, and Minolta, founded in 1928. In 2006, Konica Minolta withdrew from the photographic film and camera business in which it had been founded, and drastically changed its business structure. Today, Konica Minolta operates in the digital workplace, professional print, healthcare, and industry businesses. More than 40,000 employees in about 150 countries are engaged in these businesses.
The company is also actively engaged in DX: in 2018, it established the Business Reform Department to promote business reforms utilizing digital technology. Furthermore, from FY2020, based on its medium-term management strategy "DX2022," the company is working to transform its business from a product-oriented business to a business focused on high-value-added services (DX as a Service) through DX. The company's DX is highly regarded outside the company and has been selected as one of the "DX Issues 2020" by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Our DX aims to provide sustainable value by first looking at future social issues in 2030, then defining customer value by backcasting from there, and using this as a starting point to strengthen our intangible assets and the competitiveness of our business," said Mr. Konishi. Yuji Ichimura, CIO/CSO of Konica Minolta, is in charge of DX reform and DX brand promotion. To achieve this goal, he is using every possible technology and business model to transform the entire group. We are willing to disrupt existing organizations and processes and rebuild them from scratch.
As part of this effort, they are promoting the "visualization" of management data.
We used to collect and analyze management data mainly using Excel, but the amount of work involved was enormous," recalls Yukihiro Imaizumi, group leader of the Reform Promotion Group in Konica Minolta's Business Reform Department. It took several days to prepare materials for the management meetings. By the time the management meeting was held, the data was already out of date, making it difficult to make decisions in a timely manner. Mr. Ichimura also points out, "Even if such data were available, the situation in the field has already changed. The old data was used to issue instructions to the field, resulting in confusion on the ground, which occurred on a daily basis.
We would like to establish a system to link data analysis to decision-making and execution in a single step. I also think it is important to share the meaning of the numbers so that we can discuss them on the same basis.

Tableau implementation and operation environment
Tableau has become the standard data platform for the entire company, and we are actively supporting the use of Tableau. The basic approach is for the Business Reform Department to listen to the needs of the business divisions, present a methodology suited to each, and then let each business division handle the actual use of the data," explains Hosoki.
In addition to this, the company actively cooperates with the department in charge of internal communications. The department also proactively collaborates with the department in charge of internal communication, and information on Tableau utilization is introduced in a series of articles produced by the department, which provide internal DX case studies. We are expanding Tableau utilization through an optimal combination of top-down and bottom-up approaches," Imaizumi said.
These activities have borne fruit, with more than 500 people from various business units participating in a Tableau-related internal event held in December 2020. The number of dashboards already created is in the hundreds.
Reasons for selecting Tableau
Imaizumi and Hosoki explain that Tableau was selected as the standard data platform for three main reasons.
The first is the ease of performing detailed data analysis.
The second is its high connectivity, which allows for flexible data capture.
And third, the support is excellent to ensure the adoption of the system.
In addition to these factors, the announcement of plans to integrate with Salesforce's AI function "Einstein Discovery" in 2020 also supported the adoption of the system. This is expected to further accelerate the use of data.
We have more time to be creative. Much less time is spent on how to analyze and present the data, and more on what insights can be found in the data.

The effects of Tableau implementation
The use of Tableau has brought the following benefits
Faster data utilization
Tableau reduces the time required for data aggregation, analysis, and reporting, enabling timely use of data. The time required to create documents has been reduced from three days to a few hours, and meetings can now be conducted using the dashboard," Imaizumi said.
Combining Various Types of Data
By importing and combining various types of data into Tableau, analysis that was difficult in the past has become easier. One example is the analysis of the correlation between the expansion of the Corona Disaster and sales. Other examples include regional trends and factor analysis of workplace injuries.
What impressed me about Tableau was its cleverness. I feel that every detail of what the data analyst wants to do has been well thought out and designed. I also like the fact that I can create dashboards in a limited amount of time and make corrections on the fly.

About future development
In September 2020, we will start using Einstein Discovery to improve sales productivity in the Business Reform Department and in our main business. In 2021, the company plans to use the knowledge gained in this process to propose solutions to other business units.
Japanese companies have the advantage of being able to share tacit knowledge easily, but by integrating the power of data with this, we should be able to demonstrate even greater strength," says Ichimura. Visualization of management data is a powerful foundation for sharing the tacit knowledge of management's decision-making criteria in a form that can be backed up. Once this is achieved, the field will be able to make the same decisions as management. Japanese companies that can do this will be highly competitive on the global stage.
