　No. 1 was the red supergiant star V1489 Cygnus, located approximately 5,250 light years away in the direction of Cygnus. Its diameter is about 2.3 billion kilometers, or about 1,650 times that of the Sun.

　The largest star known to date was long considered to be UY Taurus, but according to Gaia project public data released in 2018, the distance was found to have shrunk by about 60% from previous observations, so the number one spot has been switched.
