On April 26, 2021, a new cultural creation facility was born in Kanda Nishikicho with the themes of "academic" and "well-being". It is a new base for the Kanda Nishikicho Town Development Project, which inherits the history of a "learning town" that was renovated from the old building of a printing company built in 1964.

In this article, I will focus on six exciting points that are unique to the building. From the 1st basement floor to the 3rd floor above ground and the rooftop terrace, you can't miss the rugged sauna that is unique in the world, the cafe that offers coffee that matches the sauna, and the attractive commission art that is studded in the building. ..

The long-established printing company in Kanda, Seikosha, which was the owner of the original building, is located on the 4th to 6th floors.

1. Keep the spirit of the sauna in your mind and body.

SaunaLab Kanda is located on the first basement floor of a completely new sauna by Yukitaka Yoneda of Welbe, a genius in the sauna world Everyone dreams of an enthusiastic "sauna" for men's saunas, "OKE SAUNA" that fulfills the dream of entering a sauna tub, and women's saunas in a world with tatami mats and basins. There are various unique dream spaces with the theme of "returning to the connection with nature" such as "IKE SAUNA" which is only one.

In addition, "ICE SAUNA", which is a diversion of a tuna freezing room, has been installed in both men's and women's sauna spaces. The cold air of -25 degrees gently cools the body. The temperature of the saunas other than "ICE SAUNA" is about 70 degrees Celsius, and the custom-made low ceiling is designed to have the best steam circulation.

It is a 90-minute time system, and you can make a reservation from one week in advance. Because it is so popular, it will be sold out in about a day from the start of reservation. You can enjoy completely different saunas for women and men, but only Wednesday is a replacement day.

2. Collect sauna goods.

On the first basement floor, you can find a wide variety of authentic sauna goods selected by Yoneda from Finland, the home of the sauna. The uniquely designed sauna hat that looks like a fairy is handmade by a local creator. In addition, we have prepared a variety of products such as Hishaku for Vichta and Leil, tubs, in-house clothes, and birch for "Wisking", which is a massage method for tapping the body with leaves.

In addition, on the 1st floor, you can find one-of-a-kind sauna goods by independent creators selected by creative director Akinori Ikeda, and related Hobonichi goods.

3. Chill out with sauna coffee.

The first floor is a community space where the studio / office of Yukaisha, which is run by creative director Akinori Ikeda , and cafes, shops, and galleries are integrated without boundaries. Of particular note is the "Sauna Kitchen," which offers Finnish food and sauna coffee. Kesennuma's Anchor Coffee's "I want you to drink after the sauna" is a refreshing and recommended sauna blend coffee.

In addition, you can eat "Hobonichi" fresh juice "Hata de Shiboriya", "SHAKE Sandwich" using salmon, and sausage "McCala" which is called the representative of sauna food in Finland. You can also read rare books unique to the city of Kanda, where coffee is displayed in one hand.

4. Meet new talent.

The building has 10 fascinating commission arts in the space from the first basement floor to the rooftop. The ultimate commission art is a sign with different fonts, upper and lower letters, and different shapes, but next to it is designed by Atsuki Kikuchi, printed by Seikosha, which has an office in the same building, and Kanda's long-established paper wholesaler Takeo prints paper. The painting "Hajike", which is the signature of the building, is displayed.

When you enter the building, you will be fascinated by the large textile sauna hat-shaped lamp designed by Yuri Himuro, who has studied abroad in Finland (Photo: Kisa Toyoshima).

Don't miss the break space in the basement. We will exhibit a magnificent landscape photograph of a large screen created by creative director Ikeda, and a mobile produced by Daijiro Ohara that has shadows only when it is "tot". If you look at them after the sauna and feel the natural breeze from the windows on the upper floors, you will surely have the ideal time for "well-being" of mind and body.

5. Learn from "a teacher who is not a teacher".

In 2017, "A classic to drink very much. Hobonichi's school, which started with the theme of ”, will be born larger and wider this year. "Let's meet people, let's hear the story. ], You can learn from a wide range of people that you would not normally meet by listening to various stories such as their experiences and wisdom. Classes will be delivered via the app released this year. The classroom studio in Kanda Port Building will record lessons and will be used as a place for people to gather like a salon in the future.

6. Feel the wind of the trees.

On the roof terrace, in addition to Mizue Ogiso's commission art "Mountains and Between" with a mountain motif, a wooden bench that imitates a birch and a sauna, which is considered to be a national tree in Finland, is installed. Although it is small, it has a natural scent, and by superimposing the buildings on the mountain-themed art, it is a calming terrace where the spirit is guided into nature.

In addition to the real space, the portal site Open Kanda will cut out the places where old and new things meet in this city, and introduce the charm of Kanda.

Keep an eye on Kanda Portville, a "hot" spot full of intellectual stimulation that keeps your body resting but your head is full.
